Language and Culture Class

Actually I don't think that I major in English, because my English ability just like an elementary student in America. How could I say that I major in English or declare that English is my professional capacity? In chinois, our people just ask what you study at the university or major in, otherwise other Asian countries prefer to use their native languages to ask what's your professional ability that you learn at the university. And then they think you must be very good on professional ability. I don't know how to reply this questions for others. I just think my English needs to improve, therefore I chose it as my major and open my mind to know the different cultures and views. I never thought what if I major in English, and then I would be a translator or English teacher. Some people would like to learn more languages for traveling around the world, therefore they think perhaps I have the same abition. Then I think I am abnormal that I don't like to change my ease life and increase the risk. Same, I have discussed many European, American and Asian. Most European think it's boring in Europe unlike Asia, and most Asian envy that Western are rich. If you say you major in English, then other Asian would think you could earn a lot for translator kind of jobs. And what if you say that you want to immigrant to Europe or America, then my neighbor countries would think the female could marry a Western guy to get the citizenship, and male could work for some illegal works. I cannot accept that marriage as a transaction, because you don't respect yourself, you also cannot ask others to respect you. This semester I also take a course for Asian American literature, then I understand why chinois nourish hatred until now, because they did have a bad treatment. It sounds compassionate; however, if you know what they did and made American have the treatment in return. Then you would not feel so sorry for them.
I am happy my university has many culture courses to make me know different values. I like to emphasis on the humanitic fields, not just focus on the language writing examination. The following two images are my assignment on the class' notes. My teacher wants to know what we learned in the class. Then he could help us more.


p.s. The neighbor countries except Singapore and Hong Kong to have the concepts for marrying a Western guy to get the citizenship.
