228 Peace Memorial Day

Today we have a day off, and it's important for our Taiwaner. At least it's most important for me. Last night, I thought I would have a heavy heart today. However, this morning I was awakened by Mai's message, she told to me that she arrived to Japan last night and she would check her schedule to visit my city with shopping queen Ayako soon. Thanks for her messages to awake me, otherwise I would not have a light mood today.
Let's talk about 228 Peace Memorial Day, it is a memorial to the victims of 228 Massacre. It happened in 1947, and around that time Taiwan's population has 6 million. chinois army claimed they just killed around 20,000 to 30,000 Taiwaner, and some information showed that our elites were killed around 120,000 people. My Mom told me that her aunt was not killed by 228 Massacre but she was worried my grandma and went to my city, Kaohsiung to see her, she witnessed blood flowed and had become a river then survived to back, after that she was scared to death. Because at that time, the chinois troop killed everyone they saw. So now you would know why I was warned not to touch the politics by my family.
Why and how it happened? In sum, after a year and a half of devastation and plunder, Taiwan society was pushed back thirty or forty years. As a result, 16 months of so-called "Retrocession" culminated in the eruption of the 228 Massacre. On the evening of February 27, 1947, an agent from the Alcohol and Tobacco Monopoly
Bureau struck and injured a woman illegally peddling tobacco on Yenping Road in Taipei City, and this led to another member of the public being shot and killed. On February 28, citizens of Taipei protested to the relevant organizations to no avail, in fact they met with machine-gun fire from the Governor's Office. Once the situation had broken out, it was hard to contain, and it spread across the island, as people rose up in every place and rioted all across Taiwan.
What did they do and make our people cannot stand anymore? They killed people freely, and the troop raped women arbitrarily, also troop bought the things without money, what if our people informed them, they shot people and killed them. And they also made us bankrupt. Suddenly forty thousand Taiwan Dollars only valued one New Taiwan Dollar.
Actually it's also our elites fault, because we believed that they would apologize and thought they are not bad people at all. So those Taiwaner opened the port for the chinois troop, and the first murder scene was in my city and then they massacred Taipei city. Until 1995, the president apologized in public. But it is ironic. Because those new immigrants who did kill Taiwanese did not apologize, but the president who has Taiwanese descent kneeled down and apologized to the families of victims for 228 Massacre.
Today I went to the scene then mourning for those victims, because of them, it developed the enlightenment of independent thought for Taiwaner. Anyway, this is still a wound unable to heal. We just say that we need to keep the peace with a wry smile.
